Why Use Focus Consulting Curriculum

Focus Consulting’s Vocational Training curriculum was developed through years of research and testing led by Founder and CEO Dr. Jeffrey J. Cook. Dr. Cook brings decades of executive experience serving people facing poverty, supported by a doctorate in transformational leadership, an MBA, and a bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management. That blend of scholarship and practice has shaped a highly structured, immersive curriculum that connects classroom fundamentals to real-world application.

Grounded in Dr. Cook’s academic and field research on holistic, whole-person care, the program follows a systematic, tiered model. Participants build confidence by completing assessments and earning recognized certifications before moving forward. The result is training that prepares marginalized individuals for long-term career stability while enabling nonprofits to generate sustainable revenue by integrating the model into their own social enterprises.

College Credits

Vocational Training may also offer nationally accredited college credits through Focus Consulting's online university partnerships.

Coming Soon: Facilities Maintenance

Vocational Training in Culinary Arts and Hospitality blends classroom instruction with hands-on lab work in active commercial kitchens. Students apply core skills—sanitation, food prep, and cooking techniques—in real-world settings. The program builds job readiness for fast-paced food service, sharpening precision while developing discipline, time management, and teamwork.

Vocational Training in Retail, Thrift and Warehouse blends classroom instruction with hands-on training. Students practice on retail floors, in donation sorting, and in warehouse settings, applying retail ergonomics, merchandise processing, and inventory management (including 5S and FIFO) in real-world scenarios. This approach prepares them for fast-paced customer service and logistics while building safe, accurate operation of Point-of-Sale (POS) systems, plus safety awareness, organization, and communication.

Vocational Training in Facilities and Maintenance blends classroom instruction with hands-on practice. Students work in real facility environments, learning preventive maintenance, safe tool use, and basic repairs while following safety standards and using PPE. Training covers work orders, cleaning and sanitation, and support for daily building operations (including groundskeeping and light custodial tasks), preparing students for facilities team expectations while strengthening reliability, communication, and attention to detail.

Curriculum Packets

Includes a full syllabus, weekly instructor guides, slide decks, and unit-specific videos. The curriculum prepares students for careers in high-demand fields and is designed to be easy for volunteers to teach even without prior vocational training or industry experience.

A curriculum is the plan that turns a program’s goals into day-to-day teaching and learning—clarifying what students need to know and be able to do, and how they will build those skills over time.

A strong curriculum creates a consistent learning experience—no matter who is teaching or where instruction takes place—by organizing content into a clear sequence and spelling out expectations for both instructors and learners. It connects the big picture (program outcomes) to the practical details (daily lessons), so instruction stays focused, measurable, and aligned to real-world skill needs. It also provides the tools instructors use to plan and deliver training with confidence, while giving students transparency about what they will learn, how they will practice, and how their progress will be evaluated. To support that structure, the curriculum typically includes:”

Course Syllabus

A course syllabus summarizes the course purpose, key topics, learning objectives, and grading criteria. It acts as a roadmap by outlining the weekly flow of instruction, required materials, assignments and due dates, participation expectations, and course policies. It also clarifies how learning will be measured and how time is divided between classroom instruction and hands-on lab practice.

Instructors Guide

An Instructor Guide is a set of instructional materials and guidance that helps qualified instructors deliver lessons or training consistently and effectively. Unlike a lesson plan written for one teacher, an instructor guide is designed for reuse by multiple instructors so learners receive a comparable experience and achieve the same intended outcomes.

Educational Slides (Instructor & Students)

Course-specific slides, a teaching script, and student handouts that help any instructor even without prior course knowledgeteach the material effectively.

Educational / Training Video

Engaging Vocational Training videos that reinforce key concepts, model real-world procedures, and support skill practice beyond the classroom.
